AmeriStaff Employment & Staffing Solutions is hiring a Deputy Clerk

AmeriStaff is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Customer Service & Cashier Clerk. This position serves as the first point of contact for the public and requires excellent customer service skills, cash handling experience, strong computer proficiency, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced office environment. The ideal candidate will accurately process payments, maintain financial records, and support daily administrative operations while providing professional service to citizens and visitors. 

Job Type: Full-Time
PAY: $16/hr.

Essential Job Duties

  • Accept and process payments for utilities, taxes, and miscellaneous accounts using computerized accounting systems.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with billing inquiries, payment information, due dates, and account questions.
  • Accurately receive and process cash, checks, and credit card payments.
  • Balance cash drawers and assist with preparing daily bank deposits.
  • Prepare daily cash receipt reports and support additional financial reporting functions as needed.
  • Maintain organized records including receipts, invoices, billing documents, and related files.
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls while documenting and routing inquiries appropriately.
  • Assist with preparing, processing, and distributing bills, notices, and correspondence.
  • Receive, organize, and maintain office supplies and departmental inventory.
  • Operate standard office equipment including computers, calculators, copiers, printers, fax machines, shredders, and mailing equipment.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and other office software to maintain records, track information, and generate reports.
  • Perform other administrative and clerical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in customer service, cash handling, data entry, or office administration.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public in a professional manner.
Preferred:
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience in a government, financial, or accounting office environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to accurately count money, make change, reconcile cash drawers, and process financial transactions.
  • Proficiency with data entry, Microsoft Excel, and standard office software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a high-volume office setting.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assignments independently.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, grammar, spelling, and office procedures.

  • Fast-paced office environment with frequent interaction with the public.
  • Position requires professionalism, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
